The eye-opening documentary "Who killed the electric car?" examines the rise and fall of GM's EV1 electric car and follows some of the personalities that were part of California's short-lived affair with this alternative, sustainable and, some say, revolutionary transportation. The film is designed to play into the hands of those with preconceived notions about the reasons the electric car "failed" and disproves everything viewers might have heard on the subject. The story runs like a murder investigation, putting each of the "suspects" for the car's failure on trial. Suspects range from faulty batteries, the oil companies, carmakers, consumers and the government, among others. This film does a good job of presenting objective viewpoints, but it is obvious the goal of the movie is to inform the public about the true possibilities of the electric car and how it can help combat global warming and alleviate dependence on foreign oil. This documentary caters to those interested in alternative transportation, climate change, political and corporate cover-ups and calls for the freedom of Americans to choose their transportation source.
