Steel engraved bookplate to v. 1 of Jos: Cowen shows a country scene with a river and two young women with a large rock displaying the word STELLA. The plate was printed and/or engraved in Newcastle-on-Tyne.
The verso of the general t.p's give the printers: v. 1 Printed by Messrs. Parker, Corn-Market, Oxford; vols. 2 to 10: Oxford: Printed by I. Shrimpton.
Each vol. has a date of publication at the foot of its imprint: v. 2-4, 7 and 8 1850; v. 9 1851; v. 6 and 10 1852; v. 5 1853; v. 1 1854.

The endpapers vary in colour and content. Each pastedown has advertisements and each free endpaper is of the same colour as the pastedown but has no print.
