提要：	Transcribed consular dispatches, 1845-1849, of Dr. William A. Sparks, of Society Hill, S.C., during his tenure as American Consul to Venice, a period that included the completion of the 1847 railway bridge connecting Venice with the mainland, and the 1848 revolt when Venice rebelled against Austria and briefly, declared its independence. Correspondence re Sparks' burial in Italy, the selection of his successor, and Sparks' exhumation and return to South Carolina for burial; includes letter of transmittal, 22 Aug. 2005, from Dr. Ernest L. Helms III, Society Hill, S.C., who transcribed these notes from National Archives microfilm also available in repository. Correspondents in addition to W.A. Sparks include A.P. Butler (U.S. Senator from S.C.); John M. Clayton (U.S. Secretay of State under President Zachary Taylor), Peter C. Ebenkofler (Sparks' secretary), Edmund Flagg (secretary to the American minister in Berlin, Germany), Daniel Jenifer (U.S. Representative from Maryland and U.S. Minister to Austria, 1841-1845), Albert G.
