Abstract:

Collection includes correspondence, manuscript poems and fragments, newspaper clippings, reprints, notebooks, and sketches.

The collection consists largely of Browne's poetry and does not include material related to his career at Hopkins. Some clippings discuss Browne's positions on matters affecting the state of Maryland. Letters of Browne to other literary figures including Edmund Spencer, John H. Ingram, John M. McBryde are included. Among other correspondents are Edward Augustus Freeman, Francis Galton, and George Saintsbury. Of interest are poems and letters of the poet-priest, John Banister Tabb. Owens Hand Browne was a member of the North Carolina American Party in the 1970s and tracts and literature relating to conservative party ideology are final items in the collection.
