The collection consists of eight letters and two poems. Letters include: to C.W. Squires, 15 Apr. 1874, responding to a request for a letter to be added to a collection of letters from literary men; to Miss Gilder, 20 July 1880, with news of his current literary activities; to M. Benjamin, 23 Mar. 1887, responding that he does not know the date of birth for Fitz James O'Brien, but suggesting a source that may; to Jahu Dewitt Miller, 25 May 1891, with information on when a letter to the editor written by Winter had been published.

Also, to S.L. Clemens, 18 Oct. 1903, lamenting his age and infirmity, and saying good-bye; to Dear sir, 12 June 1908, about his article, the Life and death of Edwin Booth; to Mr. Douglas, undated, accompanying a volume of Winter's poems, with some commentary on the poems; fragment, undated, a post script, mentioning an errata in one of his books. Also, two poems, untitled 5 Mar. 1897, and undated.
