Seventeen-year-old Ree Dolly sets out to track down her father who put their house up for his bail bond and then disappeared. If she fails to find him, she and her family will be turned out into the Ozark woods. In every community, there are rules.  Even for an outlaw with connections by blood there are rules that must be followed, a code of conduct that must be maintained.  Sometimes, and eventually people are just human after all...then what becomes of the code?
