A novel based on the life of Harriet Tubman. Born into slavery, Harriet knew at an early age that she would be free. Her many years of hard work as a slave to cruel owners and overseers included a blow to the head from which she almost died. Harriet finally escaped from slavery. Soon she began working as a guide on the Underground Railroad, a secret route followed by slaves running away to the north.
