Abstract:
Henry Louis Gates, Jr. travels through Mali, following ancient trade routes from the goldmines of the south to the legendary city on the shores of the Sahara desert, in search of the forgotten libraries of Timbuktu. In the second segment, Lost cities in the south, Gates travels from South Africa to Zimbabwe, exploring a thousand-year-old city kept from public view for seventy years and heads for the medieval stone citadel of Great Zimbabwe.
