Abstract:

Collection consists of a wide variety of material pertaining to Yiddish theater primarily in New York City, and a smaller amount for other American cities, South America, and Canada. Programs, photographs of productions, actors, and backstage; scrapbook, news clippings, reviews and articles; scripts; some financial records of Yiddish theaters; caricature sketches of actors; some correspondence of actors; and audio tapes of interviews with Yiddish actors. Photographs are identified. Prominent actors and actresses represented by a large quantity of material are Bella Belarina, Jacob Ban-Ami, Bertha Gersten, Molly Picon, Zvi Scooler, and Menasha Skulnik. Also, scripts from the religious television program THE ETERNAL LIGHT; some internal records of the Yiddish radio station, WEVD; photographs pertaining to Yiddish film; a few set designs; and a large series of posters and window cards advertising theatrical productions, principally in Philadelphia, Canada, Chicago, and New York with some in Israel.
