The mysterious island by Jules Verne( Sound Recording )
1 edition published in 2003 in English and held by 1 library worldwide
[This novel] depicts a group of men who have become castaways stranded on an island in the Pacific during the American Civil War. The novel describes their attempts not only to survive but also, with the aid of scientific and technological know-how, to rebuild their world from the meager resources of the island. A marvelous adventure story, [the novel] also notable for its modern retelling of the utopian deserted-island myth, with repeated echoes of Robinson Crusoe and the Swiss Family Robinson.-Dust jacket
SOS - Statics of Solids - A Program to Calculate Weight, Center of Gravity, and Inertias of Asymmetrical Missiles ( Book )
1 edition published in 1972 in English and held by 1 library worldwide
The report formulates a computer program designed to calculate the weight, center of gravity, moments of inertia, products of inertia, principal inertias, and the direction cosine matrix of the principal axes for an asymmetrical system of bodies consisting of the following geometrical shapes; ogives, cylinders, cone frustums, rectangular parallelepipeds, surfaces of revolution, and bodies of known properties. Effect of a bare explosive against a metal plate ( Book )
1 edition published in 1963 in English and held by 1 library worldwide
A semi-rational formula is developed for measuring the effects of a bare explosive against a metal plate. A comparison with an experiment shows good agreement. The purpose of this report is to derive a simple formula to predict the relative effect of a given explosive against beams of different dimensions and different materials. (Author)
True average size of a fragment between any chosen limits ( Book )
1 edition published in 1963 in English and held by 1 library worldwide
The object of this study was to develop a method for determining the correct average fragment size, between any chosen limits, of a range of sizes. Ordinarily, the arithmetic average of the lower and upper limits of a grouping is assumed to be the average fragment weight of that group. According to Mott's distribution, the smaller the fragment, the greater is the number of fragments. Therefore the arithmetic average of any grouping of fragment sizes would be larger than the true average. By writing an expression for the average size of a fragment in an interval between m and m delta m (where delta m is small), allowing delta m to approach a limit of zero, and substituting Mott's equation in the resulting differential and integrating, we get a generalized expression for the true average size of a fragment between any chosen limits. A digital computer program for interior ballistics ( Book )
1 edition published in 1963 in English and held by 1 library worldwide
A digital computer program was developed for performing interior ballistic calculations on an IBM 709 (or IBM 7090) Computer. The input and output formats are described and a discussion of the program logic and the numerical methods are given. A listing of the program, as written in Fortran, is also included in the study.
