Sigmar Polke : we petty bourgeois! : comrades and contemporaries, the 1970s by Sigmar Polke( Book )
6 editions published between 2011 and 2014 in English and held by 205 libraries worldwide
Sigmar Polke's group of works entitled "We petty bourgeois! : comrades and contemporaries" of 1974-76 was forgotten for a long time. A collection of large-format gouaches on paper, it depicts a wealth of permeating and overlapping figures, traces, signs, and quotations drawn from contemporaneous popular culture. This volume presents this work, and his entire production from the 1970s, including drawing, painting, and photography
Gerhard Richter : images of an era by Gerhard Richter( Book )
1 edition published in 2011 in English and held by 144 libraries worldwide
This volume presents and describes 50 of the artist's works with essays by leading Richter experts. It also includes personal testimonials in previously unpublished letters as well as a conversation between Gerhard Richter and Richter expert Uwe Schneede. This book provides new insight into the complexity of Richter's imagery in which banality and evil confront one another: the dreams and aspirations of the times, fast cars and new travel possibilities; personal memories; the oppressive past; contemporary politics; and both trivial and meaningful everyday objects. The cycle 18 Oktober 1977 (1988), which deals with the death of members of the Red Army Faction ('Baader-Meinhof gang') plays an important role in our understanding of the evocative power of these pictures from the 1960s. Richter's intense preoccupation with this event concludes this group of paintings from photographs. This cycle, which was loaned to the Bucerius Kunst forum in Hamburg by the New York Museum of Modern Art, has led to a new interpretation and positioning of Richter's work

A world of wild doubt by seit 1817 (Hamburg) Der Kunstverein( Book )
5 editions published in 2013 in German and English and held by 46 libraries worldwide
The starting point of this exhibition and subsequent publication is the novel 'The Man Who Was Thursday' by British poet G. K. Chesterton from 1908. The atmospheres conjured up in the book, ranging from discomfort to paranoia, resonate in many ways with the present. In a time when the German intelligence service enables assassinations by neo-Nazis, or criminal banksters loot globalized financial markets, political-philosophical ambiguity, as described by Chesterton with its causes and consequences, is as red hot as the question of whether a system can be reformed from within or has to be detonated by a coming insurrection. Thus, the exhibition and book fuse the skepticism of classical modernity toward absolute freedom with contemporary attitudes. Additionally, the curators and editors have formulated a criticism of the dominance of neoliberal and plutocratic models of society. But The Man Who Was Thursday is also a defense of nonsense

Plastizität : eine Kunstgeschichte des Veränderlichen by Dietmar Rübel( Book )
5 editions published in 2012 in German and held by 43 libraries worldwide
