Advances in macroeconomic theory by Jacques H Drèze( file )
27 editions published between 2001 and 2003 in English and held by 531 libraries worldwide
"Leading world scholars analyse a range of specific departures from general equilibrium theory which have significant implications for the macroeconomic analysis of both developed and developing economies." "Jacques Dreze considers uncertainty and incomplete markets and Nobel Laureate Robert Solow relates growth theory to the macroeconomic framework. Other issues examined are the implications for macro-policy of new research, including Joseph Stiglitz's warning on the misplaced zeal for financial market liberalization which partly engendered the East Asian and Russian crises."--Jacket

Public goods, environmental externalities and fiscal competition by Henry Tulkens( file )
8 editions published in 2006 in English and held by 57 libraries worldwide
The twenty-two papers collected in this volume illustrate the itinerary of Henry Tulkens, an applied theorist, on the occasion of his retirement from teaching. The collection is structured in four parts: I. Decentralized resource allocation processes for public and private goods II. Environment, public goods and externalities III. Efficiency analysis IV. Fiscal competition and optimality The four pictures above evoke a key concept, method or model used in each of these four parts: > MDP-type processes to determine feasible paths to efficiency and coalitional stability. > CLIMNEG World Simulation model to explore alternative environmental scenarios for the planet. > Free Disposal Hull efficiency analysis to drop convexity and help deal with outliers. > Non Cooperative Fiscal Equilbria to characterize the outcomes of fiscal competition
Voluntary Matching Grants Can Forestall Social Dumping by Jacques H Drèze( Computer File )
4 editions published in 2006 in English and held by 44 libraries worldwide
The European economic integration leads to increasing mobility of factors, thereby threatening the stability of social transfer programs. This paper investigates the possibility to achieve by means of voluntary matching grants both the optimal allocation of factors and the optimal level of redistribution in the presence of factor mobility. We use a fiscal competition model a la Wildasin (1991) in which states differ in their technologies and preferences for redistribution. We first investigate a simple process in which the regulatory authority progressively raises the matching grants to the district choosing the lowest transfer and all districts respond optimally to the resulting change in transfers all around. This process is shown to increase total production and the level of redistribution. However it does not guarantee that all districts gain, nor that an efficient level of redistribution is attained. Assuming complete information among districts, we first derive the willingness of each district to match the contribution of other districts and we show that the aggregate willingness to pay for matching rates converges to zero when both the efficient level of redistribution and the efficient allocation of factors are achieved. We then describe the adjustment process for the matching rates that will lead districts to the efficient outcome and guarantee that everyone will gain
