Hölderlin für heutige Leser - umfangreich präsentiert, kenntnisreich kommentiert. Hölderlin ist der einzige deutsche Dichter der Goethezeit, der dem 20.Jahrhundert durch alle seine Phasen hindurch als Spiegel gedient hat. Dichter wie Hoffmansthal, Trakl, George, Rilke wurden geprägt von ihren "Hölderlin-Erlebnissen", Celan knüpfte an Hölderlin an, selbst Lyriker jüngerer Generationen nennen ihn als ersten Wahl-Ahnen ihres Schreibens. Dabei müssen sich heutige Leser ein Verständnis des Werks hart erarbeiten und neu einen Umgang lernen mit Hölderlins extrem weitgespannter, von der Kenntnis griechischer und lateinischer Dichtung getränkter Sprache, und mit der anspruchsvollen Begrifflichkeit seines patriotischen und idealistischen Geschichtsbilds und Humanitätsentwurfs. Dieser Band will dabei helfen mit einer umfangreichen Auswahl aus Hölderlins lyrischem Werk. Der Kommentar, den Gerhard Kurz, Professor für neuere deutsche Literatur an der Universität Gießen, in Zusammenarbeit mit seinem Bielefelder Kollegen Wolfgang Braungart erarbeitet hat, ist - dem Gegenstand angemessen - besonders breit angelegt. Er versteht sich als helfende Zusammenstellung von Deutungsmöglichkeiten und -angeboten. Den Gedichten werden keine fertigen Interpretationsraster übergestülpt, unter denen sich dann alle Detailfragen klären ließen, dem Benutzer dieser Ausgabe wird nicht die Kenntnis der idealistisch-philosophischen Begrifflichkeit als Voraussetzung abverlangt. Der Herausgeber versucht eher, der Spannweite und der Vieldeutigkeit in Hölderlins lyrischer Sprache Rechnung zu tragen.Hölderlin für "Einsteiger": Die interessante Auswahl, der kluge Kommentar (beides aus den Händen eines ausgewiesenen Experten) laden auch weniger erfahrene Hölderlin-Leser ein, dessen große Lyrik zu genießen
