Qualche girono più tardi il nonno giunge al collegio e, di nascosto, riporta Piccolo Albero sulle montagne. La morte di poco successiva prima del nonno e poi della nonna affidano l'educazione di Piccolo Albero a Salice John: i due si allontanano felici verso le montagne
