The original introduction by Dahlberg remains an excellent overview of the work, covering such topics as the iconographic significance of the imagery and the use of irony in developing the central theme of love. His new preface reviews selected scholarship through 1990 and beyond, which examines, for example, the sources and influences, the two authors, the nature of the allegorical narrative as a genre, the use of first person, and the poem's early reception

Digitisation of Chaucer's Middle English poem the Romaunt of the Rose, MS Glasgow, Hunter 409 (V.3.7). This is Chaucer's incomplete translation of Le Roman de la Rose, originally composed in French in the 13th century by Guillaume de Lorris and Jean de Meun. Although the question of the authorship of this translation has caused considerable argument, it has become generally accepted that Chaucer at least wrote the first section to line 1705, and that this was completed at an early stage in his literary career before his principles of versification were fixed. This manuscript was copied in about 1440, some years after Chaucer's death. As well as digital copies of all the folios of the manuscript, a transcription of the text is included, along with a digitised version of the first printed edition of the poem from 1532 by William Thynne (the text of which was taken from this manuscript copy)
