Disbursements and receipts receipted by the countess. Some of the items bought were intended as gifts and the name of the recipient is then given. Many things were purchased probably for Hardwick Hall which she was building in these years; on p. 12 is a note of hangings of "Tobias" and "Nathaniel" bought in 1591 while she was in Chelsea. On p. 13 begin the detailed costs of the suit between her and her children the new Earl and Countess of Shrewsbury, including the fees paid to lawyers retained for her, 1590-1592.
