Faraday as a discoverer by John Tyndall( Book )
5 editions published between 1868 and 1961 in English and German and held by 36 libraries worldwide
First published in 1868, soon after the death of Michael Faraday (1791-1867), this short work assesses the discoveries made by a humble bookbinder who became one of the foremost scientific investigators of the nineteenth century. Eminently qualified, John Tyndall (1820-93), who received Faraday's support in taking up the professorship of natural philosophy at the Royal Institution in 1853, gives an informed appraisal of a remarkable scientific career. The protégé of Sir Humphry Davy, Faraday went on to carry out pioneering work in the fields of electromagnetism, diamagnetism and electrolysis. Tyndall focuses here on Faraday's research, describing his influences and how he approached his investigations, although insights into his character are also incorporated: 'Underneath his sweetness and gentleness was the heat of a volcano.' Also reissued in this series are The Life and Letters of Faraday (1870), compiled by Henry Bence Jones, and John Hall Gladstone's Michael Faraday (1872)
The contributions of Faraday and Maxwell to electrical science by R. A. R Tricker( Book )
4 editions published between 1966 and 1974 in English and German and held by 18 libraries worldwide
The Contributions of Faraday and Maxwell to Electrical Science deals with the development of electromagnetic theory following the establishment of the basis for the first law of circulation relating to the magnetic fields generated by steady currents. This book is organized into two parts encompassing nine chapters that specifically treat the provision of the basis for the second law of circulation, the law that deals with the induction of currents, which was predominantly the work of British physicists, Michael Faraday and James Clerk Maxwell. Part I highlights their life, career, and contri
Lectures on the forces of matter by Michael Faraday( file )
14 editions published between 1859 and 2012 in English and held by 17 libraries worldwide
The pleasure which all derive from the expositions of Faraday is of a somewhat different kind to that produced by any other philosopher whose lectures we have ever attended. It is partially derived from his extreme dexterity as an operator with him we have no chance of apologies for an unsucessful experiment, no hanging fire in the midst of a series of brilliant demonstrations, producing that depressing tendency akin to the pain felt by an audience at a false note from a vocalist. All is a sparkling stream of eloquence and experimental Illustration. We defy a chemist who loves his science, no
