Federal financial support for secondary education and its effect on Ontario, 1900-1972 by Howard Fluxgold( Book )
5 editions published between 1972 and 1975 in English and held by 47 libraries worldwide
This study was designed primarily to demonstrate "why" and "how" federal (Canadian) legislation is enacted, how it is administered, whether it has been successful in accomplishing its stated goals, and what effect it has had on the Ontario system of secondary education. The paper has been organized chronologically into three sections covering the periods 1900-1935, 1935-1961, and 1962-1971. In each section, the federal secondary education legislation enacted during that period is described. The author discusses the rationale for various federal school programs and the impact such programs have had on students and on school systems. The study also attempts to show some of the processes by which an idea is converted into legislation and some of the difficulties involved in administering federal programs in education. In each section, the author has attempted to relate the legislation to the social, political, and economic climate of the time in which it was enacted. Numerous tables and an extensive bibliography are provided. Included in the appendix are reprints of the actual federal (Canadian) legislation enacted. (Author/DN)

200 outdoor science activities; a classroom extension by Ontario Teachers' Federation( Book )
7 editions published between 1968 and 1977 in English and held by 14 libraries worldwide
To encourage teachers to use the out-of-doors in their teaching, this booklet has been prepared by the Ontario Teachers' Federation. It reviews basic approaches to out-of-doors instruction, types of field trips, teacher training and sources of instructional assistance, pre-planning and follow-up for a field trip, and points to consider in evaluation. Following this are 200 outdoor science activities, each of which allows direct exposure to material things out-of-doors so pupils may gain an appreciation of their environment and an understanding of ecological relationships. Animals, birds, geology, insects, meteorology, physical science, plant life, snow, temperature, and trees are the topics of study. Each activity is briefly described and coded for unique environment or activity area (stream, marsh, open field, school year, woodlot, all areas). Concluding information lists resource books for both teachers and students in many areas of natural resources. (Bl)
