After being commissioned by the 1936 Olympic committee to create a feature film of the Berlin Olympics, Riefenstahl made a film that celebrates the human body by combining the poetry of bodies in motion with close-ups of athletes in the heat of competition. The production tends to glorify the young male body and expresses the Nazi attitude toward athletic prowess. Part one includes the carrying of the flame from Greece, the lighting of the torch and the track-and-field events where Adolf Hitler looked on in amazement as American runner Jessie Owens won an unprecedented four gold medals. Shunned by Hollywood and considered by many as a hymn to Hitler's beliefs, it remains a great lyric spectacle of photography and sound undimmed by time. Part two mostly records the games held outside and includes field hockey, polo, soccer, acquatic, bicycling, sailing and rowing events as well as the marathon race and the decathlon where American Glen Morris won the title of the greatest all-around athlete in the world. The diving sequence known as the Olympia Diving Sequence ia also in this part. It ends with the triumphant conclusion of the games
