The Decameron by Giovanni Boccaccio( Book )

Set against the backdrop of the fourteenth-century Black Death, an anthology of one hundred interlinked tales presents a variety of works recounted by the citizens of Florence--nobles, knights, abbots, nuns, doctors, philosophers, students, peasants, pilgrims, thieves, and others--who have fled the city to escape the plague
The Decameron by Giovanni Boccaccio( Book )

Set against the background of the Black Death of 1348, Giovanni Boccaccio's undisputed masterpiece recaptures both the tragedies and comedies of medieval life and is surely one of the greatest achievements in the history of literature
The elegy of Lady Fiammetta by Giovanni Boccaccio( Book )
274 editions published between 1472 and 2015 in 15 languages and held by 2,071 libraries worldwide
The Earliest lives of Dante by Giovanni Boccaccio( Book )
239 editions published between 1544 and 2017 in 12 languages and held by 1,625 libraries worldwide
"Boccaccio, with his unquenchable interest in the lives of great men, was a fervent admirer of Dante, both in terms of his life and his work. As such, he embarked upon writing this short piece as a vindication of the merits of his illustrious fellow-citizen. Yet far from being simply an account of the misfortunes that befell the great Florentine exile, the resulting Life of Dante also gives precious insight into Boccaccio's own ideas on a wide variety of issues including poetry, literature, women and society."--Jacket

Famous women by Giovanni Boccaccio( Book )
21 editions published between 2001 and 2003 in 3 languages and held by 1,074 libraries worldwide
Famous Women, which Boccaccio continued to revise and expand until the end of his life, became one of the most popular works in the last age of the manuscript book, and had a signal influence on many literary works, including Chaucer's Canterbury Tales and Castiglione's Courtier. This edition presents the first English translation based on the autograph manuscript of the Latin."--Jacket
The book of Theseus = Teseida delle nozze d'Emilia by Giovanni Boccaccio( Book )
107 editions published between 1475 and 2015 in 6 languages and held by 1,067 libraries worldwide
"The identification of the autograph Aut (ms. Laurenziano Acquisti e Doni 325) of the Teseida in the 1920s provided the authentic version of Boccaccio's poem and his till then unknown commentary of more than 1300 glosses. The manuscript was not without problems, which challenged the three 20th century editors: S. Battaglia (1938), A. Roncaglia (1941), and A. Limentani (1964). While Boccaccio himself had retraced some fading and water-staining, a later hand substantially--and often inaccurately--retraced text in the poem and, in particular, the glosses. Since Aut was the only known copy of the Teseida with Boccaccio's extended commentary, the editors were largely unable to correct any inexact or missing text in the glosses. Infra-red and ultra-violet photography, however, have resolved these problems: Boccaccio's original readings have been identified and more than a hundred examples of incorrectly over-traced text have been restored. The edition has also benefitted from the editors' recent work on the Teseida manuscripts, first of all from the identification of NO (Napoli, Biblioteca Statale Oratoriana dei Girolamini, Cod. CF.2.8), a mid-15th century manuscript containing 1100 glosses, as a copy of a lost beta autograph of the Teseida. Besides providing an improved text of the poem and glosses, the new edition publishes the three paratexts that Boccaccio used to adorn Aut, but which the previous editions omitted. These are the paraphs, the drawing-spaces, and the under-dotting for elision. The edition also includes reproductions of all the 35 drawings from NO, which are being published for the first time. In sum, it presents a version of the Teseida that is much more accurate than the earlier versions and that promises to be an important research tool for 21st century scholars and scholarship"--

Boccaccio's expositions on Dante's Comedy by Giovanni Boccaccio( Book )
9 editions published in 2009 in English and Undetermined and held by 179 libraries worldwide
"In the fall of 1373, the city of Florence commissioned Giovanni Boccaccio to give lectures on Dante for the general population. These lectures, undeniably the most learned of all the early commentaries, came to be known as the Expositions on Dante's Divine Comedy. Though interrupted at Inferno XVII, they provide profound, near-contemporary interpretations of Dante's poem and contain, in many ways, some of the most beautiful aspects of Boccaccio's admirable literary production: narrative vignettes worthy of the best pages of the Decameron, insights on the rapidly changing approach to literary commentary, and a heartfelt belief that poetry is the most faithful guardian of history, philosophy, and theology." "Michael Papio's excellent translation finally makes the entirety of Boccaccio's often overlooked masterpiece accessible to a wider public and supplies a wealth of information in the introduction and notes that will prove useful to specialists and general readers alike."--Jacket
