The new secondary education : a Phi Delta Kappa task force report by Maurice Gibbons( Book )
2 editions published in 1976 in English and held by 440 libraries worldwide
The intent of this report of the Phi Delta Kappa Task Force on Compulsory Education and Transitions for Youth is to offer a comprehensive model for educational change--to provide both recommendations and procedures for far-reaching change in secondary education. The author emphasizes that simple revision of existing educational systems will not accomplish the kind of comprehensive reform that is needed. Instead, a new and appropriate setting in school districts must be created. The questions surrounding compulsory attendance age and voluntary attendance are discussed. Fourteen propositions intended as broad assumptions on which to rethink secondary education are listed. A fictitious community school program is presented as an example of the practices suggested in the 14 propositions. Comments and dissenting opinions of three task force members are appended. Included are a summary of the effects of desegregation, research trends, the author's conclusion, an author index, a geographical index of studies, and a bibliography.
