Elegies / Propertius ; edited and translated by G.P. Goold by Sextus Propertius( Book )
942 editions published between 1472 and 2015 in 12 languages and held by 4,415 libraries worldwide
The passionate and dramatic elegies of Propertius gained him a reputation as one of Rome's finest love poets. Here he portrays the exciting, uneven course of his love affair with Cynthia and tells us much about his contemporaries and the society in which he lives, while in later poems he turns to mythological themes and the legends of early Rome. In this new edition of Propertius, G.P. Goold solves some long-standing questions of interpretation and gives us a faithful and stylish prose translation. His explanatory notes and glossary-index offer steady guidance and a wealth of information. Born in Assisi about 50 B.C., Sextus Propertius moved as a young man to Rome, where he came into contact with a coterie of poets, including Virgil, Tibullus, Horace, and Ovid. Publication of his first book brought immediate recognition and the unwavering support of Maecenas, the influential patron of the Augustan poets. He died perhaps in his mid-thirties, leaving us four books of elegies that have attracted admirers throughout the ages

Poems by Sextus Propertius( Book )
41 editions published between 1912 and 2009 in English and Undetermined and held by 656 libraries worldwide
Of all the Greek and Latin love poets, Propertius (c.50-10 BC) is one of those who perhaps holds most immediate appeal for the twentieth century reader. His helpless infatuation for the sinister figure of his mistress Cynthia forms the main subject of his poetry, and is analysed with a tormented but witty grandeur in all its changing moods - from ecstacy to suicidal despair

The commentary interprets the poems in the light of modern linguistic and literary scholarship. The Latin text comes from the Oxford Classical Text edition edited by Roger Mynors
The complete elegies of Sextus Propertius by Sextus Propertius( Book )
11 editions published between 2004 and 2016 in English and held by 294 libraries worldwide
Vincent Katz offers translations of all 107 known poems by the Augustan poet Sextus Propertius, a contemporary of Ovid. The translations keep as closely as possible to the original syntax, as Propertius' willful compressions & unusual tellings of myth are definitive of his poetics
Sexti Properti Elegos by Sextus Propertius( Book )
17 editions published in 2007 in Latin and English and held by 289 libraries worldwide
"The text of Propertius is one of the worst transmitted of the classical Latin authors; many critical editions have been conservative, however, and they are frequently unreadable as a result. This new Oxford Classical Text is the first to make full use in the apparatus of the important discoveries made by J.L. Butrica."--Jacket
