Th This volume presents the proceedings of the 17 IFIP/IEEE International Workshop on Distributed Systems: Operations and Management (DSOM 2006), which was held rd th in Dublin, Ireland during October 23 to 25, 2006. In line with its reputation as one of the pre-eminent fora for the discussion and debate of advances of distributed systems management, the 2006 iteration of DSOM brought together an international audience of researchers and practitioners from both industry and academia. th DSOM 2006 was the 17 in a series of annual workshops, and it followed the footsteps of highly successful previous meetings, the most recent of which were held in Barcelona, Spain (DSOM 2005), Davis, USA (DSOM 2004), Heidelberg, Germany (DSOM 2003), Montreal, Canada (DSOM 2002) and Nancy, France (DSOM 2001). The goal of the DSOM workshops is to bring together researchers in the areas of networks, systems and services management, from both industry and academia, to discuss recent advances and foster future growth in these?elds. In contrast to the larger management symposia, such as Integrated Management (IM) and Network Operations and Management (NOMS), the DSOM workshops are organised as sing- track programmes in order to stimulate interaction among participants. Following the excellent experiences from the previous year, DSOM was for the th
Embedded and ubiquitous computing : international conference, EUC 2006, Seoul, Korea, August 1-4, 2006 : proceedings by E Sha( Book )
3 editions published in 2006 in English and held by 202 libraries worldwide
Embedded and ubiquitous computing is an exciting new paradigm that p- vides computing and communication services all the time, everywhere. Now we can attach computing and communication devices to human bodies to mo- tor our health, embed computing chips into brains to cure memory losses, or make smart fabrics so they can change colors or generate heat. All these new devices are created to the bene?ts or convenience of human lives. We need c- ativity as well as the advance of technology. This emergence is an outcome of researchand technologicaladvances in embedded software, embedded hardware, pervasivecomputing andcommunications, wireless networks, mobilecomputing, distributed computing and agent technologies, etc. The EUC 2006 conference provided a forum for engineers and scientists in academia, industry, and government to address challenges and to present and discuss their ideas, results, work in progress, and experience. The Technical Program Committee of EUC 2006 was led by the TPC Chair, Edwin Shan, and 13 TPC Vice Chairs. A strong international Technical Program Committee was then formed to review, evaluate the submissions, and select the papers to be presented

New trends and technologies in computer-aided learning for computer-aided design : IFIP TC10 working conference: EduTech 2005, October 20-21, Perth, Australia by Achim Rettberg( Book )
3 editions published in 2005 in English and held by 67 libraries worldwide
NEW TRENDS AND TECHNOLOGIES IN COMPUTER-AIDED LEARNING FOR COMPUTER-AIDED DESIGN Edited by: Achim Rettberg and Christophe Bobda Computation and communication technologies underpin work and development in many different areas. Among them, Computer-Aided Design of electronic systems and E-Learning technologies are two areas which are different but share many concerns. The design of CAD and E-Learning systems already touches on a number of parallels, such as system interoperability, user interfaces, standardization, EML-based formats, reusability aspects (of content or designs), and intellectual property rights. Furthermore, the teaching of Design Automation tools and methods is particularly amenable to a distant or blended learning setting, and implies the interconnection of typical CAD tools, such as simulators or synthesis tools, with e-learning tools. There are many other aspects in which synergy can be found when using E-Learning technology for teaching and learning technology. This workshop, sponsored by IFIP WG 10.5 Design and Engineering of Electronic Systems in cooperation with IFIP WG 3.6 Distance Education, will explore the interrelationship between these two subjects, where Computer-Aided Design meets Computer-Aided Learning. New Trends and Technologies in Computer-Aided Learning for Computer-Aided Design documents recent approaches and results presented at the EduTech 2005 Workshop, which was held in October 2005 in Perth, Australia and sponsored by the International Federation for Information Processing (IFIP). The topics chosen for this working conference are very timely: learning environments, tools and applications for education, education technologies and trends, and teaching in the hardware design area

New developments in distributed applications and interoperable systems : IFIP TC6/WG6.1 Third International Working Conference on Distributed Applications and Interoperable Systems, September 17-19, 2001, Kraków, Poland by Krzysztof Zieliński( Book )
3 editions published in 2001 in English and held by 44 libraries worldwide
Distributed applications are a necessity in most central application sectors of the contemporary information society, including e-commerce, e-banking, e-learning, e-health, telecommunication and transportation. This results from a tremendous growth of the role that the Internet plays in business, administration and our everyday activities. This trend is going to be even further expanded in the context of advances in broadband wireless communication. New Developments in Distributed Applications and Interoperable Systems focuses on the techniques available or under development with the goal to ease the burden of constructing reliable and maintainable interoperable information systems providing services in the global communicating environment. The topics covered in this book include: Context-aware applications; Integration and interoperability of distributed systems; Software architectures and services for open distributed systems; Management, security and quality of service issues in distributed systems; Software agents and mobility; Internet and other related problem areas. The book contains the proceedings of the Third International Working Conference on Distributed Applications and Interoperable Systems (DAIS'2001), which was held in September 2001 in Kraków, Poland, and sponsored by the International Federation on Information Processing (IFIP). The conference program presents the state of the art in research concerning distributed and interoperable systems. This is a topical research area where much activity is currently in progress. Interesting new aspects and innovative contributions are still arising regularly. The DAIS series of conferences is one of the main international forums where these important findings are reported
