Voyage sentimental à travers la France et l'Italie by Laurence Sterne( Book )
202 editions published between 1769 and 2002 in 13 languages and held by 581 libraries worldwide
The quintessential novel of sentiment, A Sentimental Journey masquerades as the fragmentary travel journal of Parson Yorick, a whimsical and amorous Englishman abroad. Accompanied through Paris and the provinces by his loyal French valet, Yorick enjoys a variety of sentimental and often comic encounters with a lively range of French characters. The novel is also punctuated by passages of self-conscious reflection on questions of personal and national identity, slavery and freedom, poverty and inequality

A political romance, 1759 by Laurence Sterne( Book )
22 editions published between 1759 and 2011 in English and held by 212 libraries worldwide
A Political Romance is a 1759 novel by Laurence Sterne, author of Tristram Shandy. The first work written by Sterne might be labelled a roman à clef or a cronique scandaleuse, which were so popular at the beginning of the eighteenth century. However, even these more suitable names do not do justice to the richness and slipperiness of this text. It can certainly be considered a mock-epic allegory that wraps in its translucent veils a provincial squabble between a church-lawyer, an archbishop and a Dean, i.e. a "Lilliputian" satire on ecclesiastical politics in Sterne's York.-- Excerpted

Vie et opinions de Tristram Shandy, gentilhomme by Laurence Sterne( Book )
29 editions published between 1776 and 1998 in French and English and held by 73 libraries worldwide

Beginning with an account of his own conception (because his father had forgotten to wind the clock!) this parson-turned-writer uses the story of his birth and early years as a vehicle for many bizarre and hilarious digressions. These include - amongst others - his Uncle Toby, nursing his 'wound in the groin" and playing war games with Tristam's father and Dr. Slop whose delivery technique gave the author a birthday present of a bent nose
