4 editions published in 2000 in English and held by 1,921 libraries worldwide
The National Academy Press (NAP) presents the full text of the book entitled "Reconciling Observations of Global Temperature Change," by the Commission on Geosciences, Environment and Resources. The book covers the issue of a possible warming trend in the global-mean surface temperature of the earth
Monthly weather review by United States( file )
in English and held by 1,578 libraries worldwide
Groundwater fluxes across interfaces by National Research Council (U.S.)( file )
3 editions published in 2004 in English and held by 1,414 libraries worldwide
Estimates of groundwater recharge and discharge rates are needed at many different scales for many different purposes. These include such tasks as evaluating landslide risks, managing groundwater resources, locating nuclear waste repositories, and estimating global budgets of water and greenhouse gasses. Groundwater Fluxes Across Interfaces focuses on scientific challenges in (1) the spatial and temporal variability of recharge and discharge, (2) how information at one scale can be used at another, and (3) the effects of groundwater on climate and vice versa
Nonnative oysters in the Chesapeake Bay by National Research Council. Committee on Nonnative oysters in the Chesapeake Bay (Etats-Unis)( file )
4 editions published between 2003 and 2004 in English and held by 1,247 libraries worldwide
Nonnative Oysters in the Chesapeake Bay discusses the proposed plan to offset the dramatic decline in the bay's native oysters by introducing disease-resistant reproductive Suminoe oysters from Asia. It suggests this move should be delayed until more is known about the environmental risks, even though carefully regulated cultivation of sterile Asian oysters in contained areas could help the local industry and researchers. It is also noted that even though these oysters eat the excess algae caused by pollution, it could take decades before there are enough of them to improve water quality
Toward a new National Weather Service assessment of NEXRAD coverage and associated weather services by National Research Council (U.S.)( file )
6 editions published in 1995 in English and held by 1,162 libraries worldwide
Mapping the zone improving flood map accuracy ( file )
7 editions published in 2009 in English and held by 1,150 libraries worldwide
Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Flood Insurance Rate Maps portray the height and extent to which flooding is expected to occur, and they form the basis for setting flood insurance premiums and regulating development in the floodplain. As such, they are an important tool for individuals, businesses, communities, and government agencies to understand and deal with flood hazard and flood risk
Assessment of sea-turtle status and trends integrating demography and abundance by National Research Council (U.S.)( file )
2 editions published in 2010 in English and held by 1,128 libraries worldwide
Hidden depths : atlas of the oceans by United States( Book )
10 editions published in 2007 in English and held by 890 libraries worldwide
This atlas was developed by NOAA and the Smithsonian Institution and devoted to ocean education and literacy and was a product of a partnership to develop the Ocean Hall in the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History. The atlas covers a comprehensive range of subjects from the physical ocean to current conservation efforts, and challenges to address to ensure a productive future for the ocean. The conservation chapter introduced marine protected areas, provides an overview of MPAs worldwide, and addresses coral reef conservation, sustainable fisheries, protection of marine mammals and turtles, and the National Marine Sanctuary System
