One of the most renowned nineteenth-century British explorers of Africa, David Livingstone (1813-73) was a medical missionary who received the Royal Geographical Society gold medal in 1855. His fame was established by his 1853-6 coast-to-coast exploration of the African interior, and by the best-selling Missionary Travels and Researches in South Africa, published upon his return to England in 1857 (also reissued in this series). Livingstone's last expedition in search of 'the true source of the Nile', undertaken in 1866, forms the core of this two-volume travel diary, published posthumously in 1874. Volume 1 describes his illness-plagued journey from Zanzibar to Ujiji, in Western Tanzania. It also records his 1871 encounter with the New York Herald correspondent and explorer Henry Morton Stanley, who had been dispatched to find him after Livingstone had been cut off from the outside world for so long that he was presumed dead. Volume 2 describes the last two years of his life, when, after his meeting with the journalist Henry Morton Stanley in 1871, Livingstone insisted on staying in Africa despite his poor health. It includes details about his death and the journey to bring his body back to the British authorities, reported by Livingstone's attendants Chuma and Susi

This volume is a first edition of David Livingstone's lectures given to students at Cambridge in the 1857. In these lectures, Livingstone covered, in much detail, his explorations in Africa and the people, places and things he saw there. Livingstone goes into great detail about African culture and tribal languages in both lectures, contained in this volume. Also included are letters and biographies of Livingstone and valuable appendices including maps, glossaries and more

How I found Livingstone : travels, adventures and discoveries in Central Africa: including an account of four months' residence with Dr. Livingstone by Henry M Stanley( Book )

When the missionary David Livingstone, one of the nineteenth century's great explorers, was persumed lost or even dead in Central Africa, The New York Herald sponsored an expedition to search for him, assigning the noted adventurer and journalist Henry Morton Stanley (1841-1904)to lead the undertaking
The personal life of David Livingstone ... chiefly from his unpublished journals and correspondence in the possession of his family by William Garden Blaikie( Book )
6 editions published between 1880 and 1882 in English and held by 9 libraries worldwide
The purpose of this work is to make the world better acquainted with the character of Livingstone. His discoveries and researches have been given to the public in his own books, but his modesty led him to say little in these of himself, and those who knew him best feel that little is known of the strength of his affections, the depth and purity of his devotion, or the intensity of his aspirations as a Christian missionary. The growth of his character and the providential shaping of his career are also matters of remarkable interest, of which not much has yet been made known. - Preface
