Selected writings by Rubén Darío( Book )

From the Publisher: Born in Nicaragua, Ruben Dario is known as the consummate leader of the Modernista movement, an esthetic trend that swept the Americas from Mexico to Argentina at the end of the nineteenth century. Seeking a language and a style that would distinguish the newly emergent nations from the old imperial power of Spain, Dario's writing offered a refreshingly new vision of the world-an artistic sensibility at once cosmopolitan and connected to the rhythms of nature. The first part of this collection presents Dario's most significant poems in a bilingual format and organized thematically in the way Dario himself envisioned them. The second part is devoted to Dario's prose, including short stories, fables, profiles, travel writing, reportage, opinion pieces, and letters. A sweeping biographical introduction by distinguished critic Ilan Stavans places Dario in historical and artistic context, not only in Latin America but in world literature

"A reprint of the classic edition of Darío's stories published in 1950 by Mejía Sánchez, with a brilliant and erudite preliminary study by Raimundo Lida (see HLAS 16:2619). Valle-Castillo, who originally published this 'second edition' in 1987 after Mejía Sánchez's death in 1985, adds 'Historia de Mar,' 'Primera Impresión,' and seven other stories, all discovered by Mejía Sánchez. He also adds a chronology whose template appears to be the one done for the Biblioteca Ayacucho 1994 edition of Darío's Poesías. The 1950 Mexican Fondo de Cultura Económica edition of Cuentos completos, reprinted in 1983, is still available, but this edition may be more accessible to Central Americans"--Handbook of Latin American Studies, v. 58

Considered by many as the first Modernist poet to write in Spanish, Ruben Dario is a major 20th-century literary figure by any reckoning. This program explores his life and work, with attention to both verse and prose achievements. Identifying Azul as the genesis of Spanish-language Modernism, the video also explores Dario's Profane Hymns, which established his prominence among Latin American poets of the period. His horror story Thanatopia, his journalistic work for La Nacion, his pacifist efforts prior to World War I, and his service as a diplomat are discussed as well-reflecting Dario's importance in a time of political and artistic upheaval
Autobiografía de Rubén Darío by Rubén Darío( Book )
16 editions published between 1968 and 2014 in Spanish and Undetermined and held by 12 libraries worldwide
