Asimismo, es el punto de partida de la versión que la fotógrafa Cristina De Middel ha hecho de la tenebrosa historia en las calles de Makoko, un barrio flotante de la ciudad de Lagos en Nigeria. Allí conviven los espíritus con los humanos que no logran escapar, los ritos como algo cotidiano y una atmósfera que da pie a un relato fantasmagórico. El libro resultante de este proyecto que combina la historia original del autor nigeriano con la realidad de un país que sufre la pesada carga del estereotipo africano, juega con la doble narrativa que ofrecen el texto y la imagen, así como con las diferentes capas de significado que la unión de ambos producen. Una zona gris entre lo documental y lo ficticio que pretende arrojar algo de luz a la realidad de un continente cada vez más opaco."
