"Nulle star du violon n'est une île - bien que certains virtuoses semblent vouloir affirmer le contraire -, et pourtant l'esprit de collaboration de David Oïstrakh était certainement unique. Il est donc tout à fait approprié de le voir ici savourer la compagnie d'autres grands musiciens. Plusieurs paradoxes sont en jeu ici, tenant avant tout à cet esprit affable et généreux, tout simplement grand de naissance. D'une part, il était comme le dit un de ses collègues, "un virtuose qui se moquait de la virtuosité" ; de l'autre, même s'il disait à son fils Igor qu'il n'existait pas de violoniste "numéro un", mais plusieurs "numéros un", ses pairs étaient prompts à le placer sur un piédestal, en tant qu'homme et en tant que musicien. Une saine constance caractérise les trois interprétations réunies ici, qui s'étendent sur sept années ; mais l'intensité personnelle avec laquelle il répond à chacun des ses trois collègues varie subtilement."--Brochure
