Fletcher Christian, who despises Bligh but has somehow earned the captain's respect. Bligh makes life miserable for the crew, and after the Bounty leaves Tahiti for the West Indies, Bligh orders the ship's doctor, a dying man, to stand on deck despite his illness. The doctor dies, which begins a chain reaction of anger leading to Christian leading a mutiny against Bligh
Rio Bravo by Howard Hawks( visu )
13 editions published between 1959 and 2015 in English and German and held by 1,481 libraries worldwide
A beleaguered sheriff shuns offers of help in this conscious rejoinder to 'High Noon'. The apparent seriousness of purpose in 'High Noon' contrasts with the deceptively simple revivication of traditional Western elements (especially of characterisation) in 'Rio Bravo' through the integration of character and action. Against the confines of a static, almost abstract background, there is a complex working out of interrelationships in a matrix of nearly simultaneous events

3 silent classics by Josef von Sternberg ( visu )
3 editions published in 2010 in English and No Linguistic Content and held by 215 libraries worldwide
"Vienna-born, New York-raised Josef von Sternberg directed some of the most influential, stylish dramas ever to come out of Hollywood. Though best known for his star-making collaborations with Marlene Dietrich, von Sternberg began his career during the final years of the silent era, dazzling audiences and critics with his film's dark visions and innovative cinematography. The titles in this collection, made on the cusp of the sound age, are three of von Sternberg's greatest works, gritty evocations of gangster life (Underworld), the Russian Revolution (The Last Command), and working-class desperation (The Docks of New York) made into shadowy movie spectacle. Criterion is proud to present these long unavailable classics of American cinema, each with two musical scores."--Container
