The topic of diffuse astrophysical media ranges over circumstellar to extragalactic scales. The physical conditions in these media can vary from cool, dusty gases to assemblies of relativistic particles. Flows can be set up by momentum and energy injection from radiation fields, winds, jets and explosions. Their observational study involves practically all wavelengths, their theoretical understanding involves physics, chemistry and, inevitably, hydrodynamics. The hydrodynamical aspect of this meeting is particularly emphasised since it was held to mark the retirement of Professor Franz Kahn FRS, who has made many distinguished contributions in this area. Lors des rentrées atmosphériques, un choc détaché se forme à l'avant du véhicule spatial. Le plasma de la couche de choc ainsi formée est fortement collisionnel, et les flux de chaleur incidents à la paroi du véhicule sont dominés par les flux radiatifs provenant principalement du continuum. Il est alors nécessaire de prendre en compte le couplage entre l'écoulement et le rayonnement. Pour des nombres de Mach élevés, le plasma de la couche de choc est en déséquilibre thermochimique et radiatif. Les processus collisionnels (collisions entre particules lourdes et collisions électroniques) et radiatifs (émission et absorption de rayonnement) doivent être traités de façon complètement couplée. Contrairement aux hypothèses les plus fréquemment utilisées jusqu'ici, chaque niveau électronique de l'atome est considéré comme une espèce différente. Les processus collisionnels et radiatifs sont présents dans les équations de conservation de la masse des espèces sous forme de termes sources. Un terme de divergence du flux radiatif intervient dans l'équation sur l'énergie totale du mélange de gaz. Une méthode des volumes finis implicite est utilisée pour le traitement du système d'équations. Cela nécessite le calcul des Jacobiens numériques pour la linéarisation des termes sources chimiques. Un calcul de rentrée atmosphérique à 15 km/s a été effectué et met bien en évidence le déséquilibre thermochimique du plasma. Une diminution de la distance choc/paroi montre l'importance du rayonnement sur la structure de la couche de choc
