David Hockney : a drawing retrospective by Ulrich Luckhardt( Book )
38 editions published between 1995 and 2001 in 3 languages and held by 831 libraries worldwide
"David Hockney is perhaps the most widely celebrated artist of recent decades, producing work in almost every medium - painting, drawing, photography, and printmaking - as well as designing critically acclaimed sets for the stage. David Hockney: A Drawing Retrospective brings together for the first time an exciting selection of Hockney's work on paper and in sketchbooks, presenting many drawings that have never been reproduced before - including several from the artist's personal collection. Spanning his entire career, from 1954 to the present, these images show how drawing lies at the very heart of Hockney's work, a fundamental aspect of his graphic approach to every medium. Among the pieces reproduced here are portraits, landscapes, still lifes, and images of California and the other places Hockney has visited, together with subjects that reveal more personal aspects of the artist's life." "Authoritative essays by Ulrich Luckhardt and Paul Melia, curators of the first major retrospective of Hockney's drawings in fifteen years, examine the artist's skills as a draftsman, presenting a chronological view of his evolving style and technique, and placing the drawings in the context of his work as a whole. Biographical notes and a select bibliography are also included, making David Hockney: A Drawing Retrospective an invaluable source of reference as well as a beguiling and dazzling compendium of drawings by one of the most important artists of the twentieth century."--Jacket

8 editions published in 2015 in German and English and held by 77 libraries worldwide
Von den heutigen Zeichnern schätze ich Sie ganz besonders', schrieb Alfred Kubin am 25. November 1912 an Lyonel Feininger. Emil Nolde : the grotesques by Emil Nolde( Book )
4 editions published in 2017 in English and held by 64 libraries worldwide
Although Emil Nolde is famous for his dramatic ocean views and colorful flower gardens, his love of the fantastical and grotesque has received less attention to date. Yet, it is clear from his autobiography and many letters that they had a significant impact on his artistic work. Besides his first oil painting, the 'Bergriesen' (Mountain giants, 1895/96), his alpine postcards from before 1900 also display his fascination with the imaginary: here, the Swiss mountains appear as bizarre human physiognomies. His turning away from reality in favor of a grotesque, alternative world can be seen throughout his oeuvre, from its beginnings, to the 'Grotesken' (1905) and watercolors from 1918/1919, to the years when he was forbidden to practice his profession under the Nazis. The exhibition catalogue, which presents works of art never before shown, is also the first to discover a fascinating side of the great painter and water colorist. 00Exhibition: Museum Wiesbaden, Germany (30.04.-09.07.2017) / Buchheim Museum der Phantasie, Bernried, Germany (23.07.-15.10.2017)
