Hundreds of audio and video recordings of readings, interviews, and conference panels held in Iowa City and featuring best-selling and award-winning writers and poets from around the world. The Virtual Writing University Archive began as a collaboration between the International Writing Program (IWP) at The University of Iowa and the School of Library and Information Science (SLIS). The IWP held hundreds of recordings of its past literary events in analog audio and video formats. These recordings document the history of the IWP, and they represent an important chapter in the larger story of writing at Iowa. Prior to the Virtual Writing University Archive, the recordings were inaccessible and in danger of deterioration. The project has grown since its inception to embrace the larger community of writers in Iowa City, and with no end to the recordings in sight, the Archive promises to be a resource for writers, students, and researchers for years to come

The Workshop : seven decades of the Iowa Writers' Workshop : forty-three stories, recollections, and essays on Iowa's place in twentieth-century American literature by Iowa Writers' Workshop( Book )
1 edition published in 1999 in English and held by 1 library worldwide
"This volume traces the Iowa Writers' Workshop's decade-by-decade evolution from the 1930s through the present. Via an introductory essay by editor Tom Grimes on the nature of genius and whether creative writing can be taught, and original introductions to the forty-three stories, many by the writers themselves, we get a sense of the importance of "The Workshop," as it became known, to the evolution of American writing itself. The forty-three stories at the heart of this book have been carefully selected to, in the editor's words, "attest to the perpetual summer, abundance and variety of Iowa's achievements, proof of its lush resonance in American culture.""--BOOK JACKET
