"The film centers on Georges Danton ... the popular revolutionary leader, who returns to Paris at a time when the new Republic is in disarray. Maximilien Robespierre ... and his allies have set up a monstrous dictatorship, beginning the infamous "Reign of Terror." In direct opposition to the government and Robespierre, Danton pleads with the people for an end to the bloodshed which violates the spirit of their revolution. What begins as a public cause, soon turns into a personal conflict between Danton and Robespierre. Robespierre subsequently has Danton arrested for treason and France's one voice for peace faces the guillotine"--Cassette container

One of Buñuel's most vigorous critiques of Catholic doctrine, The Milky Way is a picaresque tale about a pair of scraggly pilgrims who set off from Paris to experience an age old European tradition, the pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela. In the course of their journey, they traverse not only space, but time, traveling back in history to bear witness to Jesus' speech at the wedding in Cana, as well as remarks by the Virgin Mary about her son's grooming habits. Before the pilgrimage comes to an end, both the Devil himself and the Marquis de Sade make an appearance. Discussions of the articles of faith include the observations of a rural police inspector, whose skepticism about the nature of the Eucharist leads him to conclude, "You'll never convince me that the body of Christ can be enclosed in a piece of bread!"
