A Jesuit challenge : Edmund Campion's debates at the Tower of London in 1581 by Edmund Campion( Book )
5 editions published in 1999 in English and held by 213 libraries worldwide
"In the year 1581, after four days of debating six leading Anglican divines at the Tower of London, Jesuit Edmund Campion (1540-1581) was put to death because he would not deny his faith. In 1970, the martyred Campion was canonized a saint. A Jesuit Challenge is a book-length edition of previously unpublished Catholic manuscript accounts of those debates." "As corrective historical documents, these Catholic manuscripts reveal a quite different picture of Campion and his opponents from that represented in the government's published version, and thus offer us a fuller and more balanced understanding of what actually took place. In addition to their historical value, the Catholic manuscripts also include lively exchanges between Campion and his opponents, and provide humanizing details about them. As personalized documents they capture the dramatic flavor of a series of spirited debates dealing with the major theological issues separating Protestant England from Catholic Rome in Elizabeth's reign." "Together with a transcription of the Catholic manuscript accounts, Holleran supplies a general historical introduction to the debates, a detailed description of the manuscripts, brief supplementary commentaries about the debates, and a full set of explanatory notes."--Jacket

Swifty : a life of Yvonne Swift by Edmund Campion( Book )
3 editions published in 2016 in English and held by 43 libraries worldwide
The extraordinary story of how a devoted nun became an equally devoted campaigner for justice- as a successful criminal defence lawyer. When Yvonne Benedicta Swift entered the Sacre Coeur convent in Rose Bay in 1938, she was determined to dedicate herself to religious life. But in the 1970s she did something unusual: retrained as a lawyer, established her own practice and defended some of Sydney's most notorious criminals. In her shift to the law, 'Swifty', as she was known, left behind an impressive career as principle of the Rose Bay School of the Sacred Heart, and later Sancta Sophia College at the University of Sydney, Australia. In her legal practice she took on clients who she believed had been wronged, especially by the legal system itself. Known for her plain-speaking approach and her deeply compassionate outlook, Swifty went on to represent the likes of convicted murderers Douglas Rendell and Arthur Loveday, underworld figure Bill Bayeh, and Bandidos gang members for everything from traffic offences to murder. The story of this extraordinary women, who treated everyone from bishops to bikies equally, is a truly unusual and remarkable one
