Pattern recognition : 4th international conference, Cambridge, U.K., March 28-30, 1988 : proceedings by Josef Kittler( Book )
24 editions published in 1988 in 3 languages and held by 343 libraries worldwide
Pattern recognition is traditionally considered to cover all aspects of sensory data perception ranging from data acquisition, through preprocessing and low level analysis, to high level interpretation. Owing to its breadth and important application potential, the field of pattern recognition has been attracting considerable attention of researchers in academia and industry and consequently it has been witnessing a rapid growth and perpetual development. The need for dissemination of the latest results is being served by a host of international conferences on pattern recognition. One such series of meetings is regularly held in the United Kingdom under the auspices of the British Pattern Recognition Association. This volume contains papers presented at the BPRA 4th International Conference on Pattern Recognition held in Cambridge, March 28-30, 1988. Alongside the conventional topics of statistical and syntactic pattern recognition, contributions address issues in the hot subject areas of adaptive learning networks, computer vision, knowledge base methods and architectures for pattern processing, and among others, report progress in the application domains of document processing, speech and text recognition and shape analysis for industrial robotics. It is believed that the collection is not merely a report on current activities but that it will also be an important source of inspiration for future developments in the field of pattern recognition

Pattern recognition theory and applications : proceedings of the NATO Advanced Study Institute held at St. Anne's College, Oxford, March 29-April 10, 1981 by Josef Kittler( Book )
14 editions published in 1982 in English and Dutch and held by 191 libraries worldwide
This book is the outcome of the successful NATO Advanced Study Institute on Pattern Recognition Theory and Applications, held at St. Anne's College, Oxford, in April 1981., The aim of the meeting was to review the recent advances in the theory of pattern recognition and to assess its current and future practical potential. The theme of the Institute - the decision making aspects of pattern recognition with the emphasis on the novel hybrid approaches - and its scope - a high level tutorial coverage of pattern recognition methodologies counterpointed with contrib uted papers on advanced theoretical topics and applications - are faithfully reflected by the volume. The material is divided into five sections: 1. Methodology 2. Image Understanding and Interpretation 3. Medical Applications 4. Speech Processing and Other Applications 5. Panel Discussions. The first section covers a broad spectrum of pattern recognition methodologies, including geometric, statistical, fuzzy set, syntactic, graph-theoretic and hybrid approaches. Its cove, r age of hybrid methods places the volume in a unique position among existing books on pattern recognition. The second section provides an extensive treatment of the topical problem of image understanding from both the artificial intelligence and pattern recognition points of view. The two application sections demonstrate the usefulness of the novel methodologies in traditional pattern 'recognition application areas. They address the problems of hardware/software implementation and of algorithm robustness, flexibility and general reliability. The final section reports on a panel discussion held during the Institute

These proceedings are a record of the Multiple Classi?er Systems Workshop, MCS 2007, held at the Institute of Information Theory and Automation, Czech Academy of Sciences, Prague in May 2007. Being the seventh in a well-established series of meetings providing an international forum for the discussion of issues in multiple classi?er system design, the workshop achieved its objective of bringing together researchers from diverse communities (neural networks, pattern rec- nition, machine learning and statistics) concerned with this research topic. From more than 80 submissions, the Programme Committee selected 49 - pers to create an interesting scienti?c programme. The special focus of MCS 2007 was on the application of multiple classi?er systems in biometrics. This part- ular application area exercises all aspects of multiple classi?er fusion, from - tramodal classi?er combination, through con?dence-based fusion, to multimodal biometric systems. The sponsorship of MCS 2007 by the European Union N- work of Excellence in Biometrics BioSecure and in Multimedia Understanding through Semantics, Computation and Learning MUSCLE and their assistance in selecting the contributions to the MCS 2007 programme consistent with this theme is gratefully acknowledged

4 editions published in 2008 in English and held by 0 libraries worldwide
It is with great pleasure that we present the proceedings of the 6th Inter- tional, Symposium on Visual Computing (ISVC 2010), which was held in Las Vegas, Nevada. ISVC provides a common umbrella for the four main areas of visual computing including vision, graphics, visualization, and virtual reality. The goal is to provide a forum for researchers, scientists, engineers, and pr- titioners throughout the world to present their latest research ?ndings, ideas, developments, and applications in the broader area of visual computing. This year, the program consisted of 14 oral sessions, one poster session, 7 special tracks, and 6 keynote presentations. The response to the call for papers was very good; we received over 300 submissions for the main symposium from which we accepted 93 papers for oral presentation and 73 papers for poster p- sentation. Special track papers were solicited separately through the Organizing and Program Committees of each track. A total of 44 papers were accepted for oral presentation and 6 papers for poster presentation in the special tracks
