The Adagio and Allegro of Robert Schumann (1810-1856) is the first work of major importance written for the valve horn. It is also one of the most difficult. The original title was Romance and Allegro and it was composed during the first few months of 1849, a period when Schumann also composed solo works for oboe and piano, clarinet and piano, as well as the Konzertstuke for four horns and orchestra. -- from page [2]
