"The Department of Immigration and Multicultural and Indigenous Affairs initiated a major series of surveys of recently arrived migrants, known as the Longitudinal Survey of Immigrants to Australia (LSIA). Two sets of surveys have been conducted of migrants who received their visas offshore. The first set surveyed migrants arriving in Australia from September 1993 to August 1995 (Cohort 1) and the second surveyed migrants arriving in Australia from September 1999 to August 2000 (Cohort 2). Migrants were first interviewed about six months after arrival. A second wave of interviews of the same people was conducted 12 months after the first wave. This report provides an account of the insights that we can obtain from a close analysis of these data."--Page 1

"In 2003, the first major study of the aged care workforce, covering only the residential aged care workforce, provided a clear picture of important aspects of how paid carers support the elderly (Richardson and Martin 2004). In this Report, we detail the results of a followup study to this earlier work, and new information that covers the community based part of the workforce which has previously been unstudied. Using these studies we are able to assess important aspects of the evolution of the residential aged care workforce, provide the first picture of community based aged care workers, and explore how the residential and community based workforces compare."--Page xiii
