Pete, der bei allem Ehrgeiz nichts mehr haßt als falsches und unfaires Spiel, läßt sich unter dem Druck der Sponsoren auf den schmutzigen Deal ein. Während der spitzfindige Reporter Ed dem Skandal langsam auf die Spur kommt, lebt Pete nur für das große Liga-Spiel gegen den amtierenden Meister. Am Ende muß er erkennen, daß der Verlust der Selbstachtung weit schwerer wiegt, als Sieg oder Niederlage in einem Match
