Intentionality and semiotics : a story of mutual fecundation by John N Deely( Book )
6 editions published in 2007 in English and held by 185 libraries worldwide
How can philosophy or science claim to discover objective truth when their arguments originate from subjective beings? In "Intentionality and Semiotics", John N. Deely offers a controversial solution to the problem of subjectivity in inquiry. He creates an interface between semiotics and the concept of intentionality, as it appears in Aquinas' work, to demonstrate that every sign is irrevocably linked to human understanding. In the process, Deely builds a bridge between classical thinkers such as Aristotle and modernists such as Heidegger and Wittgenstein in this innovative volume
The impact on philosophy of semiotics : the quasi-error of the external world with a dialogue between a 'semiotist' and a 'realist' by John N Deely( Book )
6 editions published in 2003 in English and held by 173 libraries worldwide
The "problem of the external world," which modern philosophy began by creating, postmodern philosophy begins by revealing as a quasi-error. The book concludes with a philosophical dialogue revealing the inadequacy to the postmodern situation of a simple return to any past form of "realism," and explaining why the postmodern situation calls for a new definition of human being as "the semiotic animal.""--Jacket

Medieval philosophy redefined : the development of cenoscopic science, AD 354 to 1644 (from the birth of Augustine to the death of Poinsot) by John N Deely( Book )
10 editions published between 2010 and 2016 in English and held by 162 libraries worldwide
With "Medieval Philosophy Redefined" John Deely provides an in-depth, original history of medieval philosophy, tracing a common thread that coherently unifies and defines what he calls 'the Latin Age' - which reaches unbroken from the fifth-century work of Augustine through to the seventeenth-century work of Poinsot. That common thread is the philosophy of sign. Sure to be controversial, this volume will be required reading for all students and scholars of the history of philosophy and medieval specialists

Purely objective reality by John N Deely( Book )

"This volume solves the problem of the subjectivity/objectivity couplet, making an indispensable contribution both to semiotics and to philosophy. American philosopher John Deely offers the first sustained and theoretically consistent interrogation of the means by which human understanding of 'reality' will be instrumental in the survival - or destruction - of planet Earth."--Jacket
Semiotics 1981 : [proceedings of the sixth annual meeting of the Semiotic Society of America, held October 1-4, 1981, in Nashville, Tennessee] by John N Deely( Book )
8 editions published in 1983 in English and held by 74 libraries worldwide
This volume differs from the volume, Semiotics 1980, in that it is no longer an experimental product, but the result of a permanent commitment of the Semiotic Society of America to publish each year henceforward those papers presented at its Annual Meeting which are submitted to the Secretariat in timely and proper form. Thus Semiotics 1981 marks the beginning, following upon the experimental Semiotics 1980 volume, of an indefinite series of volumes presenting the cross-fertilization of styles, topics, methodologies, and traditions "in which new ideas vie for survival and experiment is at a premium." It is this cross fertilization which is at the heart of the vitality and integration and redistribution of the world of knowledge. The historical value of such a record is obvious. But the more immediate objective of these volumes of annual proceedings is to promote participation in the work of "semioticizing" traditional perspectives and disciplines by providing a forum in which young scholars can meet regularly and find an outlet for their efforts at interdisciplinary thinking which are not always welcome in the journals and proceedings devoted to the promotion only of traditionally specialized perspectives
