Psalm and sacred songs. A book stated to have been written and bound by a seaman on board Capt. Cook's ship the Resolution. After Cook's death the worker returned to England where he died. His son gave it to William Taylor who went from England to Geelong in 1849. After his death it came into possession of Rev. Taylor's son-in-law, who gave it to the Warrnambool Museum

Captain Cook, in his second voyage, sailed from Plymouth with the Resolution and the Adventure on July 13, 1772. He returned on July 25 1775. The name and/or rank of the officer in charge of this watch book is unknown

This copy is in the hand of Cook's clerk, William Dawson, and the title page records: "Captain James Cook's Voyage from The Year 1772 to July 1775 given to me by Himself, Bristol". (See J.C. Beaglehole ed. "The Journals of Captain James Cook" (1961), II, ccxxii.) This copy was presented to the National Library of Australia by H.M. King George VI to commemorate the proposed visit to Australia in 1952 by H.R.H. Princess Elizabeth and H.R.H. Duke of Edinburgh. The visit was cancelled because of the death of King George VI and the accession of Queen Elizabeth
