Deep storage : collecting, storing, and archiving in art by Ingrid Schaffner( Book )
7 editions published in 1998 in English and held by 438 libraries worldwide
"This publication documents the importance of collecting and packaging, storing, and archiving as a contemporary artistic strategy. It lends surprising insight into the process of creating art, which itself is a result of collecting experiences and materials, by using the work of forty internationally celebrated artists as examples." "In Deep Storage, these archives of materials become works of art themselves. The documentation and exhibition of these extreme departures from conventional forms of collection and recollection is a stunning project in the avant-garde tradition." "In accordance with its subject matter, this book is organized like a storage file of information, in which the broad spectrum of artistic contributions and essays and texts by twenty-five authors is presented alphabetically."
Cezanne and the dawn of modern art by Paul Cézanne( Book )
8 editions published between 2004 and 2005 in English and held by 283 libraries worldwide
"Cezanne and the Dawn of Modern Art presents selected paintings by Paul Cezanne alongside works by younger artists that reveal the powerful influence of the founder of modern painting. The driving forces in the reception of Cezanne's art were not art critics or art historians, but rather other artists: primarily the Fauves - led by Matisse, de Vlaminck, and Derain - and the Cubists - including Picasso, Braque, and Leger - all of whom absorbed and elaborated on Cezanne's revolutionary ideas about color and composition." "Against this background of Cezannisme, the book presents key works by Cezanne and younger artists in revealing juxtapositions. Readers will discover analogies and variations between the works of the "father of modern art" and those of his successors in series of related motifs - portraits, still lifes, and landscapes - a compact history of the icons of modern art."--Jacket

Obsessions : R.B. Kitaj 1932-2007 by Cilly Kugelmann( Book )
6 editions published in 2012 in English and held by 159 libraries worldwide
R. B. Kitaj (1932-2007) was one of the most significant painters of the post-war period. His work defied the trend in abstract art prevalent in the 1960s and brought him to the forefront of British figurative painting. In spring 2013 the Jewish Museum London and Pallant House Gallery, Chichester, will concurrently present the only UK showing of the major retrospective R.B. Kitaj: Obsessions, currently displayed at the Jewish Museum Berlin. The joint London/ Chichester shows are the first comprehensive exhibition of the oeuvre of Kitaj since his death and the first major retrospective in the UK since his 1994-5 exhibition at the Tate Gallery. The exhibition at the Jewish Museum London will feature over thirty works in which Kitaj explored his Jewish identity, including iconic paintings such as The Wedding; If Not, Not; Cecil Court, London W2 (The Refugees) and The Jewish Rider.--

Surreal encounters : collecting the marvellous : works from the collections of Roland Penrose, Edward James, Gabrielle Keiller and Ulla and Heiner Pietzsch ( Book )
3 editions published in 2016 in English and held by 133 libraries worldwide
This book brings together over 160 of the finest surrealist artworks by legendary artists including Salvador Dali, Max Ernst, Rene Magritte, Joan Miro and Man Ray. The works hail from the four renowned and extraordinary private collections of Edward James, Roland Penrose, Gabrielle Keiller and Ulla and Heiner Pietzsch, and together offer a superb overview of surrealist art. Ten essays explore the different origins, historical contexts and creative urges behind these collections. Artworks, perhaps more than anything else that one can acquire, are objects of desire and surrealist artworks even more so. The sheer quality of the works acquired (and, in the case of the Pietzsches, still being acquired) is astonishing and, while passionate about their private visions, all the collectors have been mindful of contributing something to the public good. The collections complement each other to an extraordinary degree and allow us to follow some of the artists' careers from beginning to end. By uniting them, exciting new juxtapositions emerge along with a fuller and richer picture of the surrealist movement as a whole
