Made in Germany ( Book )
2 editions published in 2007 in German and held by 193 libraries worldwide
"Made in Germany offers a comprehensive survey of contemporary art in Germany. At its core are fifty-two young artists living and working in Germany, about half of whom are from abroad and all of whom are among the promising newcomers of the international art scene. In looking at questions of artistic identity, Made in Germany no longer simply considers the birthplace and biography of the artists, but also the context of where the work itself is produced. This is the first time that modern German art has been clearly examined to this great an extent as a weave of national particularities and cultural exchange." "This volume provides concise insights into the complete oeuvres of all the artists, as well as an informative comparison of the individual artists and each of their different regional and biographical contexts."--Jacket

Photography calling! ( Book )
5 editions published in 2011 in German and English and held by 177 libraries worldwide
"Photography Calling! presents the work of some of documentary photography's most accomplished practitioners, including acknowledged masters of the medium William Eggleston, Diane Arbus and Robert Adams; a younger generation of international leaders such as Jeff Wall, Andreas Gursky and Thomas Demand; and emerging photographers such as Laura Bielau. Combining works from the Sprengel Museum Hannover and the collection of the Niedersächsische Sparkassenstiftung, the exhibition and accompanying book show photography in all its power, beauty and ambition. Photography Calling! also has a political motive: to increase the prominence of photography in German museum collections in which it is currently underrepresented. In Thomas Weski's words, Photography Calling! risks 'a precarious balancing act between, on the one hand, surprising the art world and initiating a serious discourse and, on the other, popularizing high-level contemporary artistic photography and making it accessible to a wider audience'

U-ni-ty by Michael Schmidt( Book )
2 editions published in 1996 in English and held by 142 libraries worldwide
Michael Schmidt, born in Berlin in 1945, is one of Germany's greatest photographers. Following his "Ceasefire" project in 1987 (book and international touring exhibition), he addresses the question of "U-ni-ty" in this book. He traces the symbolism and iconography of political systems, their propaganda and the images of humankind they project. He explores unity, or one-ness, of individual and state, seeking out the discrepancies and the correlations. In his work he mixes found images with those of his own making to the point where reality and imagination merge, creating a densely woven structure of associations and emotions. The book is published to coincide with an exhibition in the Museum of Modern Art, New York in 1996 and a tour to such venues as the Sprengel Museum in Hanover and the Albertinium in Dresden, as well as a 1996 retrospective show of his work at the Photographer's Gallery in London
