3 editions published in 2003 in English and held by 166 libraries worldwide
In recent years, the delicate political climate in the Middle East has often overshadowed critical discussions related to economic and social development in the Arab world. The region's economic fragility has intensified due to the economic backlash following the September 11th attacks. This report focuses on the challenges of improving the region's competitiveness at a particularly critical time. It highlights the enormous difficulties that the Arab world currently faces, problems that will only worsen unless drastic changes are made in these countries. It reveals why growth in the region has stagnated since the 1980s in spite of some of the highest investment rates in the world. It also examines why, despite its distinct natural resource endowments, the region has failed to capture a greater proportion of international trade and capital flows

3 editions published in 2011 in English and held by 29 libraries worldwide
"With a total population of over 75 million people and a strategic location between wealthy trading partners, with Russia to the east and a vast market of EU citizens to the west, the Eastern Europe and South Caucasus (EESC) region is attractive as a destination for investment and trade. It is endowed with significant human and resources ranging from the black soil in Ukraine that produces some of the best wheat in the world, to energy reserves in Azerbaijan and unexplored water resources in several countries. However, in spite of recent growth--an average of almost 8% of GDP during 1998-2008--the region's productivity levels remain 77% below the world average. [This publication] examines the key policies that would increase competitiveness in the countries of the region through developing human capital, improving access to finance for SMEs and creating more and better investment opportunities."--Publisher description
India rising : emergence of a new world power by Tarun Das( Book )

Water security : the water-food-energy-climate nexus : the World Economic Forum water initiative by Dominic Waughray( Book )
1 edition published in 2011 in English and held by 1 library worldwide
The world is on the brink of the greatest crisis it has ever faced: a spiraling lack of fresh water. Groundwater is drying up as water demands for food production, for energy, and for manufacturing are surging. Water is emerging as a headline geopolitical issue and worsening water security will soon have dire consequences in many parts of the global economic system. Directed by UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon at the 2008 Davos Annual Meeting, the World Economic Forum assembled the world's foremost group of public, private, non-governmental organization and academic experts to examine the water crisis issue from all perspectives. The result of their work is this stark, non-technical overview of where we will be by 2025 if we take a business-as-usual approach to (mis)managing our water resources. Equally stunning are the potential solutions and the recommendations that the group presents. All are included in this landmark publication. Water Security contains compelling commentary from leading decision-makers, past and present. The commentary is supported by analysis from leading academics of how the world economy will be affected if world leaders cannot agree on solutions. The book suggests how business and politics need to manage energy-food-water-climate nexus as leaders negotiate details of the climate regime that replace Kyoto Protocols
