(Critical) This is a clearly organized self-instructional module on diabetic retinopathy. Background information, preproliferative and proliferative retinopathy and management are discussed and indications, contraindications and complications of treatment, including photocoagulation and vitrectomy are covered. Diabetic maculopathy is mentioned, but too briefly considering its importance in visual loss. While this program is comprehensive, logical and consistant, the viewer needs a familiarity with diabetes and diabetic retinopathy for full comprehension; it is recommneded for resident ophthalmologic and continuing education

(Critical) This program presents ocular fundus photographs, including visual field diagrams, flourescein angiograms and CT scands from a variety of normal and pathologic conditions. Emphasis is placed on the differentiation of true papilledema from other causes of elevated optic disk and on the evaluation of optic atrophy and nerve fiber layer defects. Retinal and choroidal abnormalities associated with neurologic disease are also discussed. The program is clearly and accurately done and thoughtfully narrated. Thus, this presentation is highly recommended for medical and postgraduate students in ophthalmology, neurology and neurosurgery
Diseases of the macula : a slide-tape presentation of the Retinal Vascular Center, Wilmer Institute [Kit] by Arnall Patz( visu )
2 editions published in 1976 in English and held by 7 libraries worldwide
(Critical) This program begins with a basic anatomical discussion of the macula and the principles of fluorescein angiography. Diseases of the macula are discussed by presentation of fundus photographs, fluorescein angiograms, and diagramswith major emphasis on senile macular degeneration and histoplasmosis. Treatment of macular diseases, specifically photocoagulation, is covered. Photographs and sequencing are excellent. Audio quality is good although the narrative is forced, stilted and too slow. The narrative contains an excessive amount of speculation about pathogenesis and etiology of macular disorders which is often not identified as such. The accompanying manual makes it possible to derive considerable information if no tape recorder is available
