Joshua Fisher (d.1729) operated a hostelry at Dedham, Massachusetts between 1658 and 1730. His will was probated in 1730, and provided that a daughter, Hannah, and her husband, Benjamin Gay, would not be entitled to a share in the estate. Another daughter, Mary, married Nathaniel Ames in 1735, and came to live with her mother at the tavern; Nathaniel Ames ran the tavern for his mother-in-law. When the mother-in-law died in 1737, a suit was filed by Benjamin Gay. After various suits and counter-suits and court decisions, in the end, Nathaniel Ames and his wife were the winners of the property
