Evolution of wild emmer and wheat improvement : population genetics, genetic resources, and genome organization of wheat's projenitor, Triticum dicoccoides by Eviatar Nevo( Book )
11 editions published between 2001 and 2002 in English and held by 107 libraries worldwide
Wild emmer is the progenitor of most cultivated wheats and thus an important source of wheat improvement. This book draws the results from multidisciplinary studies on the ecological, genetic, genomic, agronomic, and evolutionary aspects of wild emmer, conducted at many labs around the world. It is divided into the following parts: Origin and Evolution of Wheat - Population Genetics of Wild Emmer Wheat at the Protein and DNA Levels - Genetic Resources of Wild Emmer for Wheat Improvement - Genome Organization and Genetic Mapping - Conclusions and Prospects. The authors describe the evolution of wild emmer as a model organism of a selfer in evolutionary biology, and its rich potential genetic resources for wheat improvement
Evolutionary theory and processes : modern horizons : papers in honour of Eviatar Nevo by S. P Vasser( Book )
4 editions published between 2004 and 2011 in English and held by 93 libraries worldwide
This volume consists of four parts: (I.) Evolution of Life and Evolutionary Theory- including papers on the origin of life, stress and evolution, population genetic structure, convergent evolution in extremely halophilic prokaryotes, complex dynamics of multilocus genetic systems caused by cyclical selection, and evolutionary epistemology; (II.) Genome Evolution- including papers on adaptive genome regulation, comparative mammalian genomes and novel genes, selection as generator of genetic diversity, the biological role of pseudogenes, and genome signatures; (III.) Phylogeography and Phylogeny- including papers on phylogeographic hypotheses, mushroom phylogeny, macroevolution, and the origin of higher taxa; and (IV.) Human Evolution and Ecology- including papers on man's place in nature, telomere biology and aging, the origin of human hairlessness, and the effects of humans on Mediterranean landscapes
Evolutionary theory and processes : modern perspectives : papers in honour of Eviatar Nevo by Solomon P Wasser( Book )
4 editions published in 1999 in English and held by 85 libraries worldwide
This volume consists of papers written by evolutionary, molecular and organismal biologists, geneticists, ecologists, behavioural ecologists, morphologists, mathematicians, theoreticians and experimentalists, in honour of Professor Eviatar (Eibi) Nevo on the occasion of his seventieth birthday. The contributors are only a small subset of Eibi's many friends, collaborators and students (not that one can distinguish these categories among Eibi's colleagues). His widespread influence and activity, both in Israel and more generally, as a leading evolutionary biologist is indicated by his many co-authors on books and papers, and by his many students integrated in teaching and research. This volume presents some of the most recent dramatic results of molecular, genomic, and organismal evolutionary processes. It represents analyses, experiments, observations, reviews, discussions and forecasts of evolutionary theory comprising both novel methods and results, reanalyzed and reviewed data sets based on comparative, experimental, and theoretical studies utilizing model organisms across phylogeny, including bacteria, fungi, plants, animals and humans. It elucidates the revolution in molecular biology that ushered in our understanding of the evolutionary process over time and space. The topics discussed include major problems of evolutionary theory concerning origins, phylogeny, relative importance of evolutionary forces, structure and function, adaptation and speciation in space and time in changing and stressful environments. A major emerging generalization is the nonrandomness of genome structure highlighting the importance of natural selection as a major organizing evolutionary force not only at the phenotypic level, but most importantly at the interlinked genotypic molecular level. The integration between the molecular and organismal levels unifies life which is subjected to the mechanism of natural selection as a major orienting evolutionary force

Coleoptera of "Evolution Canyon" II : Lower Nahal Keziv, western Upper Galilee, Israel by Meir Finkel( Book )
3 editions published in 2002 in English and held by 17 libraries worldwide
The present monograph is the outcome of a long-term international study of the processes of biodiversity evolution at a microsite situated in the "Evolution Canyon" II, Galilee, Israel. It presents data on 513 species belonging to 50 families, among the largest families are Carabidae, Leiodidae, Staphylinidae, Scarabaeidae, Cantharidae, Elateridae, Buprestidae, Malachiidae, Coccinellidae, Tenebrionidae, Cerambycidae, Chrysomelidae, Bruchidae, etc. Each species record is completed with distributional map within Israel, as well as data on ecology, general distribution and references. The book is a significant contribution to the fauna, distribution and ecology of the beetles of the Near East
