ALRT impact assessment : baseline travel survey : final report by D Peterson( Book )
14 editions published in 1987 in English and held by 35 libraries worldwide
SkyTrain has been operating in Vancouver region since January 1986. As SkyTrain represents a major change in transportation service levels in the region, it is expected that travel patterns will undergo significant change. The Advanced Light Rapid Transit (ALRT) impact assessment baseline travel survey was conducted from September to Novemeber 1985 to provide a description of travel patterns in the Vancouver region prior to SkyTrain. The project included a home interview survey of over 25,000 households, a trip diary administered to approximately 1,700 households, traffic screenline counts, an external cordon survey, a taxi survey, a survey of trips for work or business purposes, a survey of SkyTrain riders and an inventory of parking near SkyTrain stations. This summary report presents an overview of the results of the survey

Study of hot mix recycling of asphalt pavements by Transportation Development Centre (Canada)( Book )
8 editions published in 1983 in English and held by 33 libraries worldwide
Interest in hot mix recycling has recently been stimulated by:rising cost of asphalt cement and fuels; depletion and risingcosts of readily available conventional aggregate resources; theneed to reduce energy consumption; reduction in available fundsfor transportation facilities due to inflation; and, environmental problems due to mining of aggregate materials. Since hot mix recycling can offer advantages in all these areas, the overall objective of this project is to encourage the use ofthis cost and energy efficient strategy in the rehabilitation andmaintenance of pavements in the national road system

ITS strategies for commercial vehicles at grade crossings by Louis-Paul Tardif( Book )
4 editions published between 2004 and 2005 in English and held by 30 libraries worldwide
This project, part of a larger R & D initiative launched by Transport Canada under Direction 2006, deals with the development of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) strategies at public grade crossings involving commercial vehicles as defined by the National Safety Code (i.e., vehicles over 4,500 kg). This report describes possible ITS solutions for both the rail and the road modes of transport in the context of at-grade crossings, and outlines a set of design principles and requirements for the deployment of ITS solutions at highway-railway crossings. Human factors and its role in this issue are also discussed at length
Commercial motor vehicle driver fatigue and alertness study by C. D Wylie( Book )
13 editions published in 1996 in English and held by 28 libraries worldwide
This is the full final report on the largest and most comprehensive over-the-road study of commercial motor vehicle driver fatigue ever conducted in North America. Data collection involved 80 drivers in the US and Canada who were monitored over a 16-week period. Work-related factors thought to influence the development of fatigue, loss of alertness, and degraded performance in drivers were studied within an operational setting of real-life, revenue-generating runs. These factors included the amount of time spent driving during a work period, the number of consecutive days of driving, the time of day when driving took place, and schedule regularity. Chapter 1 contains the background to the study and information on study objectives and overall approach. Chapter 2 presents a detailed literature review on driver fatigue and its measurement, as well as on the involvement of fatigue in crashes. The next two chapters present the study methodology, data collection methods, and detailed results. The final chapter contains an overview of the results (including the most significant factors affecting fatigue & alertness, as well as findings related to scientific methodologies & fatigue countermeasure concepts) and the study's conclusions and recommendations

Discussion paper on the environmental impact of transportation and the planning and selection of research and development activities to reduce this impact. The study used a literature review, analysis, and interviews with Transport Canada personnel to develop its viewpoints. It addressed the environmental impact of transportation, the current situation, and a scenario for the year 2000 and beyond; transportation and other human activities; specific transportation of environmental impact, including energy use, emissions, noise, transportation emergencies, and residuals; solutions and strategies to solve or alleviate the problem; the probability of success using regulatory and economic instruments and alternative fuels; gaps in current research such as carbon dioxide emissions, VOC/NOX emissions and ground level ozone, noise, particulate emissions from diesel engines, high altitude emissions from aircraft, and residuals; research and development at Transport Canada and outside Canada; resources; and R & D requirements and priorities
