Three manuscripts and a sheet of drawings relating to the lives of Nathaniel and Edward Fanning (1912? and 183-?). The two manuscripts of: Memoirs of the Life of Captain Nathaniel Fanning are typed (one contains some handwritten pages). Nathaniel served in the American Navy during the Revolutionary War under the command of John Paul Jones. This work was first published in 1806 and a number of times thereafter; these typescripts were likely made for the 1912 republication. Collection also includes an annotated manuscript of Edward's memoirs: Voyages around the World, to the South Seas, China, &c. under the Command & Agency of Captain Edmund Fanning, Performed between the Years 1792 & 1831 (written sometime between 1831 and 1841). This work was originally published in 1833. This manuscript is in an envelope mistakenly labeled as the original manuscript of Nathaniel's memoirs. Related to this are two small, color drawings mounted on a single sheet of two of the ships Edmund sailed on.
