Letter, 1836 Feb. 1, Macon, [Georgia] to William Schley, [Governor of Georgia], Milledgeville, Georgia by James R Butts( file )
1 edition published in 1836 in English and held by 1 library worldwide
This is a letter dated February 1, 1836 from James R. Butts, of Macon, Georgia, to Governor William Schley (Governor of Georgia, 1835-1837). Butts offers the use of his steam boat, called the Tomochichi, for transporting troops and supplies from Darien (McIntosh County, Georgia) to Florida, probably associated with the Second Seminole War, (1835-1842). Tomochichi was the name of an Yamacraw Indian in the Savannah area who negotiated with James Oglethorpe, founder of the colony of Georgia, and ultimately visited England with him. Butts tells the governor that if he wants to take advantage of this offer he should contact Agent John Rowland in Darien
